# What is it for?

> To apply effect or effect preset, one needs to open Effects Panel, click search bar and type what is needed. Then double click or drag the effect item on a clip. [uservoice](https://adobe-video.uservoice.com/forums/911233-premiere-pro/suggestions/33844213-keyboard-shortcut-for-effects-presets-pleeeeease)

Excalibur search bar: type first letters of the effect name and press Enter.\
Or just assign shortcuts to the most used effects.

> To export timeline as individual clips, one needs to manually nest each clip, then select all of those nests in Project Panel and export them. [uservoice](https://adobe-video.uservoice.com/forums/911233-premiere-pro/suggestions/34332769-export-timeline-but-as-individual-clips)

Excalibur command: [**Export Selected Clips**](/extensions/excalibur/commands/export#export-selected-clips)

> To paste clip on the same track it was copied from, one needs to disable all track targets, paste clip and enable initial targeting again. [uservoice](https://adobe-video.uservoice.com/forums/911233-premiere-pro/suggestions/35314639--paste-onto-same-track-shortcut?page=1\&per_page=20https://adobe-video.uservoice.com/forums/911233-premiere-pro/suggestions/35314639--paste-onto-same-track-shortcut)

# How it works

Excalibur is a complex extension. It consists of three modules:

1. [Shortcut Listener](/extensions/excalibur/how-it-works#shortcut-listener)
2. [Premiere Pro API](/extensions/excalibur/how-it-works#premiere-pro-api)
3. [Shortcut Presser](/extensions/excalibur/how-it-works#shortcut-presser)

## Shortcut Listener

There is no possibility in Premiere Pro API to register shortcut press and execute attached action. This is a big limitation for developers.

Essentially any program that has shortcuts has a shortcut listener, e.g.:\
Keyboard Maestro, AutoHotKey, Alfred.

That is why I developed a second extension, that goes along with Excalibur: [**Spellbook**](/extensions/spell-book-old)\
It listens for shortcut press inside Premiere Pro only, this allows to assign shortcuts to Excalibur search bar and any other command.

## Premiere Pro API

The core of Excalibur, it is what makes Excalibur different from automation software, which relies on visual cues and replication of user interaction with Premiere Pro.

Excalibur knows which track is active, clip postion value, sequence name, playhead position, export presets, marker label, etc.

## Shortcut Presser

When I developed Excalibur, I realized that adding transitions is not very convenient via Premiere Pro API, so I decided to make shortcut presser.\
With its help Excalibur easily adds transitions and moves selected clips with timecode.

Because not all commands are available in API (for example change label of a clip on timeline), I thought that it would be great to allow users to press any shortcut, as part of User Commands. This allows creating better and more complex workflows.

# Search Bar

## Search

### Standard search

Type name of command and Excalibur will show you results matchting your query. You can navigate with **arrows** to select command (or mouse), and press **Enter/Return** (or click) to execute it.

![](/files/-MO2UkmiMz828xPzmK7o)

### First Letters search

To search for command faster, it is possible to type first letters of command name, divided by space.

| Command Name            | Search Example |
| ----------------------- | -------------- |
| Warp Stabilizer         | w s            |
| Add Marker to Selection | a m t s        |

![](/files/-MO2UnYPFYVDQk_oP_7v)

## Submenu

Some of the commands have a right arrow near the name. That means that command has a submenu, where user can customise its parameters.

To access submenu press **Right Arrow** or **Enter/Return**.

![](/files/-MO2UqCoPBniLmNmykrn)

{% hint style="warning" %}
There are few commands that have a default execution:\
[Add Transition](/extensions/excalibur/commands/video-audio-transitions), [Audio Effects](/extensions/excalibur/commands/video-audio-effects#audio-effects), [Nest Clips](/extensions/excalibur/commands/clip#nest-clips), [Solo Tracks](/extensions/excalibur/commands/sequence#solo-tracks), [Solo Lock Tracks](/extensions/excalibur/commands/sequence#solo-lock-tracks), [Remove Transitions](/extensions/excalibur/commands/clip#remove-transitions).\
When **Enter/Return** is pressed default parameters will be used. To access submenu for these commands use **Right Arrow**.
{% endhint %}

# Windows

On Windows by default search bar will take 1-3 seconds to load. Hovewer it is possible to enable instant search bar.

### Instant search bar

Search bar will be loaded instantly.

{% hint style="warning" %}
Premiere Pro UI might flash after you execute Excalibur command. From my test it happens when you have another application window behind Premiere Pro.
{% endhint %}

### Panel mode

There is a bug in Premiere API that wont allow to use Japanese or other languages that use IME in a search bar.

Panel mode is primarly made as a workaround for those cases.\
Drawback would be that panel size can't be defined by user.\
As a benefit: the panel could be placed anywhere on a screen and its position will be remembered.

# Settings

To open settings window go to `Window > Extension > Excalibur Settings`

It is possible to assign shortcut to open settings window in [General](/extensions/excalibur/settings/general) tab

# Commands

In commands tab you can [add User Command](/extensions/excalibur/user-commands#create-user-command), add shortcuts and toggle to show/hide commands in search bar results.

## Add shortcut

Double click on command name, shortcut box will appear.\
Press shortcut to assign it to the command.

{% hint style="warning" %}
If shortcut is already in use by another Excalibur command, it will be removed from other command and assigned to a new one.
{% endhint %}

{% hint style="danger" %}
If shortcut is already in use by Premiere Pro, it won't be assigned to Excalibur command. To use this shortcut, go to Keyboard Shrotcut menu and disable it.
{% endhint %}

## Show/hide command in search result

To show/hide from search result, select it and click "show/hide" button on the right of its name.

To do it faster, hold **alt+shift** and click on a command name.

# General

In general tab you can assign shortcuts to launch Excalibur search bar (**Unsheathe Excalibur**) or to open settings.

If update will be available, the download link will appear at the bottom.

# List of Commands

Commands are divided into 9 categories:

* [User Commands](/extensions/excalibur/user-commands)
* [Timecode](/extensions/excalibur/commands/timecode)
* [Clip](/extensions/excalibur/commands/clip)
* [Sequence](/extensions/excalibur/commands/sequence)
* [Project](/extensions/excalibur/commands/project)
* [Export](/extensions/excalibur/commands/export)
* [Video/Audio Effects](/extensions/excalibur/commands/video-audio-effects)
* [Video/Audio Presets](/extensions/excalibur/commands/video-audio-presets)
* [Video/Audio Transitions](/extensions/excalibur/commands/video-audio-transitions)

# Timecode

When using numpad in Premiere Pro, one can control position of a playhead or selected clips by typing numbers and then pressing Enter/Return.

Not all laptops have numpad, so Excalibur timecode command becomes handy.

To control timecode, launch Excalibur search bar and type numbers, it is also possible to use calculation signs before numbers: **`+, -, *, /`**

## Playhead control (no clips selected)

![](/files/-MO2VCTAjpye1QAGDq33)

## Selected clips control

![](/files/-MO2VGGtqOVP5naQ2Gp7)

* To set a specific timecode, type a new timecode, and then press Enter/Return.
* To adjust the current timecode by using a relative value, type calculation sign `(+, –, *, /)` and the number of frames to add, subtract, or number to multiply or divide by. For example, to subtract five frames from the current timecode, type `–5`, and then press Enter/Return.

**Use shorthand substitutes while entering timecode**

When entering timecode, you can use shorthand substitutes affixed with period (..). For example, timecode value of **4..** jumps to the position 00:04:00:00. Premiere Pro interprets the numbers you type as hours, minutes, seconds, and frames.

Examples of shorthand substitutes:

* **1.** moves the CTI to position 00:00:01:00
* **2..** moves the CTI to position 00:01:00:00
* **.1** moves the CTI to position 00:00:00:01
* **.24** moves the CTI to position 00:00:01:00 for a 23.976 fps sequence
* **.1234** moves the CTI to position 00:00:51:10 for a 23.976 fps sequence

# Clip

## Position, Scale, Rotation, Anchor Point, Anti-flicker Filter, Opacity, Volume

![](/files/jvj9nxj70gHQt0IoSQxo)

### Set value

Replaces existing value with a new one. If property has stopwatch enabled, linear keyframe will be created.

### Add value

Adds, subtracts, multiplies, divides or takes percentage from existing value. If property has stopwatch enabled, linear keyframe will be created.

| Operation | Symbol      |
| --------- | ----------- |
| Add       | + (or none) |
| Subtract  | -           |
| Multiply  | \*          |
| Divide    | /           |
| Percent   | %           |

{% hint style="info" %}
Create two User Commands for scale, using **add value** setting:\
`scale_up: +5`  \
`scale_down: -5`\
Assign keyboard for each command. Now it is possible to control clip scale with a keyboard.

Same is useful for position, rotation and other properties.
{% endhint %}

### Add/Delete keyframe

Works the same way as in After Effects.\
If there is no keyframe at playhead position, it will be created.\
If a stopwatch is inactive, it will be activated, and a keyframe will be created.

If keyframe exists at playhead, it will be deleted.\
If no keyframes left, a stopwatch will be deactivated.

In comparison to [legacy](/extensions/excalibur/commands/video-audio-transitions#apply-transition-to-from-playhead-legacy) version, "Apply Transition To/From Playhead" adds proper transition between clips.

{% hint style="warning" %}
"Apply Transition To/From Playhead" command presses **Select Clip at Playhead** shortcut. Make sure it is assigned in Keyboard Shortcuts menu.
{% endhint %}

## Apply Transition To/From Playhead (legacy)

Applies transition to cuts on the left/right of playhead and stretches transition to playhead position. (Standard Premiere Pro command)

![](/files/-MO2Xib41lpYq46xTfm2)

"Apply Transition To/From Playhead (legacy)" doesn't add transition between clips, but adds fade to/from black/silence.

{% hint style="warning" %}
"Apply Transition To/From Playhead" command presses **Apply Default Video/Audio Transition to/from Playhead** shortcuts. Make sure they are assigned in Keyboard Shortcuts menu.
{% endhint %}

# Special

## **Undo**

Undos Excalibur commands. It respects order of native Premiere Pro and Excalibur commands, so if there is no Excalibur command to undo, it will undo Premiere Pro command. When working on timeline, you can completely switch to Excalibur Undo.

![](/files/-MW8USpOcpFzIfSkuKjv)

{% hint style="info" %}
Some of commands fill up history stack pretty fast with multiple actions.\
To give yourself more control over it, increase History level (max allowed value 100). Open the History panel `Window > History`and choose Settings from the Flyout (hamburger) menu.
{% endhint %}

{% hint style="warning" %}
Be careful in case you have this order of actions executed:

1. Native command
2. Native command
3. Excalibur command

If you use native undo command, you will get to **#1** in history stack and record of Excalibur command **#3** will be lost.
{% endhint %}

## Excalibur Settings

Opens Excalibur Settings

![](/files/-Me570JAPr9izzetw4R4)

# User Commands

User Command consists of one and more customised Excalibur commads, so it is possible to create combos/macros/workflows that fit your needs.

User Command has special command: [Keyboard Shortcut](/extensions/excalibur/user-commands/keyboard-shortcut).\
When used it will press defined shortcut.

## Create User Command

* Open Settings and click "Add User Command" button. User command can have custom name and as any other command assigned shortcut.
* Click on "add command" button, search bar will appear, type name of command you want to add and press **Enter/Return** (or click on it).
* You can customise some of the commands.
* If you need another command to add, click on "add command" button again.

![](/files/-MO2XrV0FIe63zPIk33Q)

## Edit User Command

* Select User Command and click on "Edit Command" button.
* To reorder commands, click on "**≡**" symbol. Commands will fold, now click and drag "**≡**" symbol. After release, commands will unfold again.

![](/files/-MO2XuB-9nAhiurjp9nP)

* To delete one of commands, press red button with cross to the left of command name.
* To delete User Command, press red button with cross to the left of User Command name.

![](/files/-MO2Xy-VROg_CqiQH2jL)

# Keyboard Shortcut

Ability to press defined keyboard shortcut allows to mix Excalibur commands with Premiere Pro commands.

When adding Keyboard Shortcut command, it will show name of Premiere Pro command, that is assigned to shortcut. It's only for convinience, name doesn't affect anything. You can click on the name to change it to different one.

![](/files/-MO2Y0wkpuKLuKuoPqUv)

# Wait

Pauses execution of a User Command for a defined amount of milliseconds (1 second = 1000 milliseconds).

Useful when using Keyboard Shortcuts that take time to be executed.

# Wildcards

When dealing with names (Export, Nest commands), User Command offers wildcard names. You can type it yourself or click on suggested wildcard and it will be added at cursor position.

![](/files/-MO2Y6SLaeaKBkfU-M4I)

# Extensions

Some of Knights' extensions allow to use their commands with Excalibur.

Create user commands, for additional automation.

<figure><img src="/files/2RSvjrSxHIfwP6nKpUFQ" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

## Supported extensions

* [Quiver](/extensions/quiver)
* [Grave Robber](/extensions/grave-robber)
* [Anchor](/extensions/anchor)
* [Arrow](/extensions/arrow)

{% hint style="info" %}
Excalibur 1.1.4 and above is needed to create user command with Knights' extensions
{% endhint %}

# Special Bins

When executing certain commands, Excalibur will create special bins where it will place project items.

Those bins could be renamed and moved inside other bins.

{% hint style="info" %}
You can create a template project with special bins that are renamed and already placed in proper bin.
{% endhint %}

## Nested Clips

Is created for **Nest Clips**, **Nest Individual Clips** commands. All nest sequences will be placed inside that bin.

## Archived Sequences

Is created for **Duplicate and Increment** command. Old sequences will be placed inside that bin.

## Special Clips

Is created for **New Item** command. All synthetic media will be placed inside that bin.

# Limitations

Here is a list of things Excalibur can't do, because there is nothing in API that will allow to do this. Though, maybe I will be able to find workaround.

{% hint style="danger" %}
**IMPORTANT:** I didn't find the way to distinguish when Premiere Pro has text-box activated. That means if you have Excalibur shortcuts that only use letters or letters with shift modifier (**A, shift+A**) and whenever you type text (subtitles, name of a track, anything), when you will press that key, Excalibur will execute command assigned to it.

To avoid this, use **ctrl**, **alt** modifiers or multiple modifiers at once.
{% endhint %}

## Mask effect

Masks (e.g. in Opacity effect) are not supported.

## Lumetri effect

When applying video preset with Lumetri Color, color wheels, curves, anything that has some kind of graphic interface, will be set to default

## Color parameter

If preset has colour value with keyframes (e.g. Tint), colours at keyframes won't be correct.

## Transition presets

Transition presets can't be applied

## Bezier keyframes

When applying effect preset, influence (length of keyframe handle) for all bezier keyframes will be set to `16.6%`

# Compatibility

Excalibur works both on **macOS** **(10.14.5 and higher)** and **Windows**.

| application      | version             |
| ---------------- | ------------------- |
| **Premiere Pro** | **2020 and higher** |

{% hint style="info" %}
Premiere Pro CC2019 support is being tested.
{% endhint %}

{% hint style="warning" %}
**Premiere Pro 14.1.0** is not supported due to API bug. Whenever you will launch Excalibur, Premiere will crash.

**Premiere Pro 14.3.0** "Export Media", "Export Selected Clips" commands won't work due to API bug.
{% endhint %}

# macOS Permissions

To allow Excalibur work properly, you will need to give Accessibility permissions for Premiere Pro.

Normaly, after Excalibur installation, when opening Premiere Pro, it should prompt you with dialogs:

<figure><img src="/files/Q0STB3V0p6n0YlSTmGk7" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

If you don’t have these pop-ups, you can grant permissions manually. Go to:\
**System Preferences > Security & Privacy > Privacy.**\
Go to each section, hit “+", find your Premiere Pro version, add it, make sure it has a tick mark.

<figure><img src="/files/77LtXWJaKPyHgOQwmSe2" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

## Accessibility (Mojave and above)

<figure><img src="/files/hUpYyXV4SUVtRWprquFr" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

## Input monitoring (Catalina and above)

<figure><img src="/files/YnAGgbG9TmKR5bJ2w2UF" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

## Reset permissions

Sometimes macOS doesn't have permissions right, to reset them do this:

* give permissions to Premiere Pro (accessibility/input monitoring), skip if permissions already granted
* untick Premiere Pro in permissions
* restart computer
* tick Premiere Pro back in permissions
* launch Premiere Pro and test

# Windows Antivirus

If you have antivirus installed, it might block Excalibur from listening shortcuts and simulating a shortcut press. To be sure that Excalibur works properly, whitelist following files:

**spell\_win.exe** – detects a shortcut press. It is essential for calling up search bar and executing any command that has a shortcut assigned. Full path:

`C:\Users\*USERNAME*\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\CEP\Extensions\knights_of_the_editing_table.spellbook\client\lib\spell_win.exe`

**spellcast\_win.exe** – simulates a shortcut press. This one needed for "Keyboard Shortcut", "Apply Transition", "Timecode" commands. Full path:

`C:\Users\*USERNAME*\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\CEP\Extensions\knights_of_the_editing_table.excalibur\client\lib\exec\spellcast_win.exe`

# Quiver

Clips at your fingertips

* Add clips or group of clips to a timeline with a shortcut
* Define destination track by target or track name
* Replace clips on a timeline with perfect sync
* Create and switch between Quiver folders for different workflows

{% embed url="<https://youtu.be/mMITvghHu98>" %}

# Main panel

The Quiver main panel is a file manager for clips library. On the left is the folder tree; on the right is the preview pane with item tiles.

## Active Quiver folder

Active Quiver folder has a blue box near it — shortcuts and Toolbar 1 add items from that folder.\
You can activate Quiver folder by clicking on it or with a shortcut.

[Learn more](/extensions/quiver/export-import) about Quiver folders.

<figure><img src="/files/1uDeJANY7LBf2eerR6QL" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

## Add clips to Quiver

There are multiple ways to add items to Quiver:

* through context menu (right click)

<figure><img src="/files/Vpp581FUnhwheLRubTkX" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

* with **plus button** at the bottom of the panel
* drag and drop from a file manager or from Project panel

<figure><img src="/files/t6r9pGgEetNbHlbP89JU" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

Depending on the import mode [setting](/extensions/quiver/settings), files will be copied to Quiver data folder or will stay at its original path and referenced in Quiver.

{% hint style="info" %}
To toggel between import mode, hold `opt/alt` key during drag and drop.
{% endhint %}

## Add clips to a timeline

It is possible to add Quiver item to a timeline with:

* double click on Quiver item in main panel
* single click on Quiver button in a [toolbar](/extensions/quiver/toolbars)
* a shortcut or control surface button assigned to Quiver item in [Spell Book](/extensions/spell-book)

<figure><img src="/files/CqWsb3XaqjOOb09KZu7h" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

{% hint style="info" %}
It is possible to add clips to the timeline during live playback.
{% endhint %}

## Quiver items

### Item types

<figure><img src="/files/McHMB1pvPs9o5PVdzesW" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

There are 3 types of buttons in Quiver panel:

<table data-header-hidden><thead><tr><th width="157"></th><th></th></tr></thead><tbody><tr><td><strong>Clip</strong></td><td>Adds one clip associated with a button.</td></tr><tr><td><strong>Folder</strong></td><td>Adds one random clip from a folder. <a href="/pages/6i2egwvDsazx9kK2f9CG">Learn more</a>.</td></tr><tr><td><strong>Sequence</strong></td><td>Adds group of clips from a sequence. <a href="/pages/lOQv1sSuX8mqAcRZiAZV">Learn more</a>.</td></tr></tbody></table>

### Addition method

To modify add method for clips, right click on it and select a method.

<figure><img src="/files/fJPr6XE2HTgJdxUttKd0" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

Available methods and their actions are listed below:

<table><thead><tr><th width="155">Method</th><th>Action</th></tr></thead><tbody><tr><td>Overlay</td><td>If targeted track has a clip at playhead, added clip will be added to the first empty track above.</td></tr><tr><td>Overwrite</td><td>Ignores any clip at playhead and overwrites it with a clip.</td></tr><tr><td>Insert*</td><td>Ignores any clip at playhead, inserts a clip and pushes forward all clips on a targeted track.</td></tr></tbody></table>

{% hint style="warning" %}
**\*Insert** method is not available for MOGRT items, due to API limitation.
{% endhint %}

### Target track

By default clips will be added to the bottom targeted track.

You can change it for each item and specify destination track by its name.

<figure><img src="/files/2ttQrobbBAAYEnSyKLEN" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

#### Creation of tracks

If a clip targets a track with a name and such track doesn't exist, track will be created.

If a clip uses "**Overlay**" method and a track with name is occupied, new track with incremented name will be created (e.g. "**Sword 2**" is occupied, "**Sword 3**" will be created).

### Label

Change label of an item added to a timeline.

<figure><img src="/files/9dopQAs9Scy5XtEwP0Y1" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

### Blend mode

For video items you can customise blend mode. It is useful for overlays.

<figure><img src="/files/MMBmzXuFF7mrfbSCQ2MR" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

### Volume

For audio items set volume when it is added to a timeline.

<figure><img src="/files/2O15Ngs1xsP18wSRdkXZ" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

### Duration

For still images set duration when it is added to a timeline.

<figure><img src="/files/7oXIpyvuMF8rTUb0c5tr" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

### Start Marker

By default clips are added at playhead at their in point.

If a clip has start marker, when added to a timeline, start marker will be aligned with playhead.

<figure><img src="/files/uo7CrR5ruWUYyf52GfZS" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

If [Auto-mark audio clips](/extensions/quiver/settings#auto-mark-audio-clips) is enabled, start marker will be added automatically, when audio clips are added to Quiver, at the loudest part.

### In/Out points

You can set in/out point to a clip, so only part of it will be added to a timeline.

<figure><img src="/files/9hFt1uNeHD9wM2FIqzjH" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

# Toolbars

In addition to the main panel, you can open up to three toolbars for one-click item insertion.

Open toolbars from the buttons in the main panel header, or with Spell Book commands.

<figure><img src="/files/03mpiGj01OP11RtYmmHM" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

### Toolbar 1 (synced)

The first toolbar syncs with the Quiver main panel. It shows items from the active folder, and Spell Book **Add Quiver item** shortcuts add items shown in this toolbar.

### Toolbars 2 and 3 (independent)

Additional toolbars are independent. Pick a quiver folder and keep it active in that toolbar, regardless of what the main panel shows.

<figure><img src="/files/bkyl4Yo8wp6r9U4jLFxx" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

### Navigation

* **Click** an item to add it to the timeline
* **Click** a folder to add a random item from inside it
* **Cmd/Ctrl + click** a folder to open it
* Use the **Go back** button to return to the parent folder

### Layout and size

Right-click on the toolbar to change layout and tile size.

Layouts available: **Grid**, **Horizontal**, **Vertical**.

Tile size can be **Small**, **Medium**, or **Large**.

<figure><img src="/files/47U4IoJJ7SZnW5wvJExV" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

### Toolbar style

In [Settings](/extensions/quiver/settings), choose the toolbar appearance:

* **Default** — standard toolbar look
* **Color** — colored toolbar buttons

<figure><img src="/files/oxa44rYIH4O35s6PjTvr" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

Configure how many toolbars are available in Settings (1, 2, or 3).

# Folder item

### Create Folder item

Create a folder with the context menu (**New folder**, Shift+N) or by dragging items into an existing folder.\
You can also drag a bin from the Project panel onto the Quiver panel to import its contents as a folder.

<figure><img src="/files/XY9OqFvfBseMttyTsWM9" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

### Random clips addition

When you double-click a folder (or click it in a toolbar), Quiver randomly selects one item from inside and adds it at the playhead.

This is useful when you have multiple clips that share the same context, such as sfx, images, or even transitions that are created with the help of [sequence items](/extensions/quiver/sequence-item-group-of-clips).

<figure><img src="/files/4xdetpLTYlZIouD4ztsm" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

{% hint style="info" %}
To open a folder instead of adding a random item, hold `cmd/ctrl` while double-clicking in the main panel, or `cmd/ctrl` while clicking in a toolbar.
{% endhint %}

### Replacing selected clips

During replacement of selected clips, the bin button logic will switch from random picking to a consecutive one. Clips for replacement will be taken one by one from a bin.

<figure><img src="/files/3Ss2sKwo5bxZk59eYs4Y" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

# Sequence item (group of clips)

### Create sequence item

Create a sequence with the context menu (**New sequence**, Shift+S) inside a quiver folder.

<figure><img src="/files/q6rcdBz1D5AtUxBVBE9m" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

You can also import an existing sequence by dragging it from the Project panel onto the Quiver panel.

### Edit a sequence

Each sequence item is a Premiere project. To edit it, right-click and choose **Edit…** or press **Shift+E**.

A new project opens with a timeline where you can add clips. The timeline already contains:

* A **start marker** you can move to control the addition point
* A locked **PREVIEW** track with placeholder clips used to generate preview images

{% hint style="info" %}
To quickly open and close sequence projects, add a Premiere shortcut to close the active project. Opening and closing a sequence then takes just two shortcuts (Shift+E to edit, then close project).
{% endhint %}

There is no need to align your clips with the start or end of the placeholder clips — their start point is ignored because the track is locked. Leave a bit of padding at the start and end of placeholders for nicer sequence previews.

### Add to timeline

Clips in a sequence are added via copy-paste. If you want clips grouped on the timeline, group them inside the sequence project itself.

<figure><img src="/files/B4vRzyVXEUEZlub5LdNg" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

### Sequence defaults

New sequences use **Full HD (1920×1080)** and **25 fps** by default. Change these in [Settings](/extensions/quiver/settings).

### Preview placeholders

Placeholder images for sequence previews can be customized in Settings. After changing placeholders, right-click a sequence and choose **Generate preview** or **Refresh preview**.

### Copy media to Quiver folder

For portable sequence items, right-click a sequence and choose **Copy media to Quiver folder**. This copies sequence media into the Quiver data folder so the item works when exported or moved.

### Addition options

Right-click a sequence item to adjust addition settings such as method, target track, and label.\
See [Quiver items](/extensions/quiver/main-panel#quiver-items).

The **Add as individual clips** toggle is enabled by default — clips are added as individual clips via copy/paste.

# Settings

Open settings with **Open settings** button in Quiver main panel.

<figure><img src="/files/goqZ5X2hgOf04kY7gChK" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

## General

### Auto-mark audio clips

When adding audio clips to Quiver, Quiver will analyse audio clips and add start markers at the loudest part of the clip.

This is useful for audio clips like whooshes, hits, etc.

### Replace selected clips

If enabled, Quiver will replace selected clips with Quiver item, keeping start points in sync.

If selected items have start markers, new items will be aligned with them.

See Main panel for details and audition workflow.

### Add metadata to clip name

When enabled, Quiver adds metadata to the clip name for copy-pasted clips. This is needed for the **Replace selected clips** feature to work correctly with sequence items.

### Import mode

Choose how media is handled when you add items:

* **Copy files to Quiver data** — media is copied into the Quiver data folder (default)
* **Reference files (no copy)** — Quiver uses the original file path; a link icon appears on the tile

Hold `opt/alt` while dragging to switch import mode for a single drop.

### Quiver data path

Change where Quiver stores folders and media. Useful for cloud-synced storage shared across machines.

### Spell Book items amount

Set amount of Quiver items to be shown in Spell Book.

## Toolbar

Configure toolbar count and appearance.

* **Toolbars quantity** — 1, 2, or 3 toolbars
* **Toolbars style** — Default or Color

See Toolbars for usage details.

## Sequence

Default settings for newly created sequence items.

* **Sequence width** and **Sequence height** — default resolution (1920×1080)
* **Frame rate** — default fps (25)

## Preview

Images used for sequence item preview generation.

* **Placeholder A** and **Placeholder B** — custom images for preview placeholders
* **Disable placeholder images** — use solid placeholders instead
* **Restore defaults** — reset placeholder images to defaults

# Watchtower

Defeat incoming hordes of files with auto sync

* Auto sync Premiere Pro/After Effects bins with system folders
* Import image sequences
* Import or flatten sub-folders
* Use relative paths for templates
* Label imported items

{% embed url="<https://youtu.be/RLNhNBuZKHc>" %}

# What is it for?

> Often project bins structure and system folders structure mirror each other. After adding new file to system folder, it should be manually imported in project and then moved to relative bin.

Watchtower will replicate system folder structure & import all media automatically.

> There might be a shared folder with media from another editor/vfx artist/sound editor/etc. You will need to check this folder from time to time and manually import new media to your project.

Watchtower will detect new added file and import it right away.

> Some files have very complicated names: *132341\_NH\_134AAB.mp3*\
> When folder gets populated with a lot of files like example above, it is hard to tell which one you just downloaded and you might import duplicate at the end.

Watchtower will not import duplicates.

> Camera folders are complicated as well. Media browser is advised to import media from camera card: it will filter out unnecessary folders and deal with spanned clips.

Watchtower handles camera folders like Media Browser.

> When rendering image sequence, you should wait for render to be complete and then import it in your project. If you add new files to sequence, you will need to relink project item again.

Watchtower will identify & import image sequence, also it will update it while it is growing.

> During [import of multiple .psd files](https://youtu.be/tyyR6Q6W4kY) Premiere Pro will prompt you\
> with import options dialogue for each file.

Watchtower can skip import options dialogue.

# How it works

Watchtower uses idea of watch folders — pre-defined folders that constantly look for any new content that is added to them.\
If new content is found, it is automatically added to Premiere Pro/After Effects.

Watchtower compares <mark style="background-color:green;">**file paths**</mark> of already imported media and incoming media to determine if file is not in the project and should be imported.

# Main Panel

![](/files/w3ZXE8rEbdx9MLFS7367)

Watchtower main panel has 3 buttons:

* **Watch/Un-watch —** toggle auto-sync
* **Sync —** to manually sync folders
* **Folders —** open watch-folders manager where you can add/remove watch folders and adjust watch-folders settings

{% hint style="info" %}
If you already selected watch folders for your project and turned auto sync on, you can close main panel and Watchtower will continue to work in background
{% endhint %}

## Add watch-folders

Select folders in your file browser and drag'n'drop them on watch-folders manager.

Or click on "add watch-folders" button.

On Windows it is also possible to add junction directories as watch-folders.

<figure><img src="/files/SXOAWKi6V73aO723O5Um" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

{% hint style="info" %}
To fold/unfold all folders quickly, hold **opt/alt** down and click on a fold arrow near the folder name.
{% endhint %}

## Watch-folder settings

<table><thead><tr><th width="135">Setting</th><th>Description</th></tr></thead><tbody><tr><td><strong>Path</strong></td><td>Path to a watch-folder. Click on it to change it.</td></tr><tr><td><strong>SUB</strong></td><td>Import or ignore subfolders.</td></tr><tr><td><strong>REL</strong></td><td>Use path relative to project location. This is useful for project templates. Relative path will also switch when moving project file between macOS and Windows, so there is no need to relink watch-folders.</td></tr><tr><td><strong>SEQ</strong></td><td>Import images as image sequences.</td></tr><tr><td><strong>FLT</strong></td><td>Flatten sub-folders: all files will be imported in a parent folder. This is useful for camera cards or image sequences that are placed each in a sub-folder.</td></tr><tr><td><strong>Label</strong></td><td>Assign label to a bin and new items imported in that bin. Great to label media files automatically (e.g. Whooshes are green, Drones are blue)</td></tr></tbody></table>

### Settings inheritance

Changing the settings of a parent folder automatically updates the settings of its child folders — making it faster to customize or delete your watch folders.

When a new subfolder is added to a watch folder, it inherits all the settings from its parent.

***

## Image sequence detection

Watchtower will automatically detect folder with image sequences inside and enable SEQ checkbox for them.

To be detected image sequence should have 3 and more digits at the end of filename:

| File name | Image sequence detected |
| --------------------------- | ----------------------- |
| cleanup\_000 – cleanup\_999 | ✅                       |
| page\_00000 – page\_99999   | ✅                       |
| sframe\_00 – sframe\_99     | ❌                       |

## Camera folders detection

Watchtower will automatically detect camera folder structures and enable FLT checkbox for them.

#### Supported camera folders:

* ARRIRAW
* RED
* AVCHD
* Canon XF
* Panasonic P2
* XDCAM-EX
* XDCAM-HD
* Sony HDV
* Sony a7S

After Effects will show notification in Info panel.

### Analyze imported media with Jumper

If [Jumper](http://getjumper.io/) is installed, imported media will be automatically analyzed.

***

## Allowed Files

![](/files/7t3I1IbZ2iEAxZoUzrru)

Set filter for file extensions to import.

{% hint style="warning" %}
If file extension is not supported by Premiere Pro or After Effects\
file won't be imported.
{% endhint %}

## Ignored Folders

![](/files/862DPOGfyG4e88x2MpoT)

Set folder names to be ignored during import.

Filter is case insensitive, adding "proxies" will filter out all folders:\
"proxies", "Proxies", "PROXIES", "pRoXiEs" etc.

You can set [**Regex**](/extensions/watchtower/settings/regex-folder-name-filter) filter as well, put regex pattern between two slashes: "/\_AME/"

{% hint style="info" %}
When new folder created inside watch folder, "untitled folder" (or another name, depending on OS language) will be immediately added to project, before you have time to rename it.

To avoid this, add "untitled folder" to folder name filter in settings
{% endhint %}

# Regex folder name filter

Regular expressions (shortened as **regex** or **regexp**) are patterns used to match character combinations in strings.

![](/files/862DPOGfyG4e88x2MpoT)

To use regex filter enclose search pattern in slashes: "/temp/, "/\d/".

For example you have folders generated by Media Encoder, it takes project name and attaches "\_AME" to the end of it:

> **"Project\_1\_AME", "Project\_2\_AME", "Project\_3\_AME", etc**

Instead of strictly defining name filter for each folder, you can set one regex filter:

> **"/\_AME/"**

### Example usage:

* **/\_ame/** — filter folder that has “\_ame” in name: “project\_ame”, “south\_America”, “\_amethyst"
* **/\_ame$/** — filter folder that has “\_ame” at the end of the name: “project\_AME”
* **/^\_ame/** —filter folder that has “\_ame at the start if the name: “\_amethyst"
* **/\d/** — filter folder that has any digit in name: “100\_images”, “image\_5\_best”

{% hint style="info" %}

# Pro Tips

## Update image sequences

By default Premiere Pro doesn't update image sequences, like After Effect does. Whenever new files are added to image sequence, you will need to offline media and relink it to image sequence again.

With Watchtower image sequences will be updated, turn auto sync on and it will happen in background.

## Ingest and proxy workflow

Premiere Pro allows you to ingest media in the background while you are editing.\
You can choose one of four following operations to begin automatically when files are imported into the project:

* **Copy**
* **Transcode**
* **Create Proxies**
* **Copy and Create Proxies**

Due to [Watchtower logic](/extensions/watchtower/how-it-works) only **Create Proxies** option is supported by Watchtower.\
Copy/Transcode will change original path of imported media file to a new path and Watchtower will import original file again, creating an infinite loop.

Workarounds for other options are listed below.

### Workarounds

{% tabs %}
{% tab title="Copy" %}

1. Open Ingest Settings.

   `mac: File > Project Settings > Ingest Settings`

   `win: Edit > Project Settings > Ingest Settings`
2. Turn ingest off.
3. Create destination folder you want your media be copied to.
4. Add this folder using Watchtower. A bin will be created in the project.
5. Manually copy files needed to destination folder.
6. With autosync on, files will be automatically imported to the project.\
   Otherwise click force sync button on Watchtower panel to import all new files
   {% endtab %}

{% tab title="Transcode" %}

1. Open Ingest Settings.\

4. Add this folder using Watchtower. A bin will be created in the project.
5. Manually add files to Media Encoder and set export settings.
6. Set output to destination folder and start render.
7. With autosync on, files will be automatically imported to the project.\
   Otherwise click force sync button on Watchtower panel to import all new files

{% hint style="info" %}
If you have new files coming from e.g. another editor and would like them to be transcoded and auto imported in the project, you can set up watch folder in Media Encoder, which will output to Watchtower watch folder.:crossed\_swords:Double watch folder :crossed\_swords:&#x20;
{% endhint %}
{% endtab %}

{% tab title="Copy and Create Proxies" %}

1. Open Ingest Settings.\
   `mac: File > Project Settings > Ingest Settings`

   `win: Edit > Project Settings > Ingest Settings`
2. Turn ingest on and set it to Create Proxies.
3. Create destination folder you want your media be copied to.
4. Add this folder using Watchtower. A bin will be created in the project.
5. Manually copy files needed to destination folder.

# Grave Robber

You show me the graves, I'll dig out the clips

* Un-nest nested or multi-cam sequences
* Un-merge clips

{% embed url="<https://youtu.be/gl8UE8d-RJ4>" %}

# What is it for?

> In Premiere Pro one can create nests: a sequences that can be used as a clip. However, if one wants to bring clips back from nest, "to un-nest" so to speak, it is not possible.

Grave Robber un-nests selected nests and multicam sequences.

> When merging clips, audio data gets lost thus making it impossible to export proper AAF/OMF files.

Grave Robber un-merges clips and replaces them with original media, all keyframes, as well as applied effects will be preserved.

# How it works

{% hint style="warning" %}
**Merlin** control surface plugin is needed for Grave Robber to work.\
[Read](/support-tools/merlin) how to add it.
{% endhint %}

1. Select clips on a timeline, that you want to un-nest or un-merge.\
   You can make a rough selection that will contain not just clips needed, but other clips as well (video, audio, essential graphics). Grave Robber will filter out not applicable clips.
2. Selected sequences will be opened one by one, clips inside copied to clipboard and after pasted to the main sequence.

![](/files/OATMXXPHKBcJI86jLcJg)

Grave Robber will respect in/out point of nests, so no extra media will appear in the main sequence.

Grave Robber accounts for clip conflict, if there is an obstructing clip above a nest in the main sequence, new tracks will be added for un-nested clips.

![](/files/g0sliMCVH8AiQDnJ0A6V)

# Main Panel

Main panel has one button — a spade. When clicked Grave Robber will un-nest selected nests.

![](/files/VqpxEtOTWfpCf3nKqlAe)

It is possible to abort un-nesting, for that press red button — a broken spade.

![](/files/bpdDV0tIzqtUTTapXINJ)

{% hint style="info" %}
During un-nest, Grave Robber will generate multiple actions in History stack. To undo/redo them at once, just use Premiere Pro's undo command (support extension [Undead](/support-tools/undead) handles undo groups).
{% endhint %}

# Settings

To access settings, click on click on panel's flyout menu (3 horizontal lines near panel name).

<figure><img src="/files/MlbO8vUBkjkwIGD1toEa" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

## Unmerge clips

Merged clips will be unmerged.

## Disable Multi-camera clips

Multi-camera clips will be un-nested and clips that are not on selected camera track will be disabled.

## Link un-nested clips

Un-nested clips will be linked, when un-nesting *linked* sequences.

# Spell Book shortcuts

Trigger extension commands with shortcuts or control surface buttons via [Spell Book](/extensions/spell-book).

## List of commands

# Compatibility

Grave Robber works both on **macOS** **(10.14.5 and higher)** and **Windows**.

<table><thead><tr><th width="217">application</th><th>version</th></tr></thead><tbody><tr><td><strong>Premiere Pro</strong></td><td><strong>2020 and higher</strong></td></tr></tbody></table>

For Grave Robber to work one should:

* Windows: [check antivirus](/extensions/grave-robber/compatibility/windows-antivirus)

# macOS Permissions

To make Grave Robber work, one needs to give Accessibility permissions to Premiere Pro.

Normaly, after Grave Robber installation, when opening Premiere Pro, it should prompt you with dialog:

![](/files/Q0STB3V0p6n0YlSTmGk7)

If you don’t have this pop-up, you can grant permissions manually. Go to:\
**System Preferences > Security & Privacy > Privacy.**\
Go to Accessibility section, hit “+", find your Premiere Pro version, add it, make sure it has a tick mark.

## Accessibility (Mojave and above)

![](/files/hUpYyXV4SUVtRWprquFr)

## Reset permissions

Sometimes macOS doesn't have permissions right, to reset them do this:

* give permissions to Premiere Pro (accessibility/input monitoring), skip if permissions already granted
* untick Premiere Pro in permissions
* restart computer
* tick Premiere Pro back in permissions
* launch Premiere Pro and test

# Windows Antivirus

If you have antivirus installed, it might block Grave Robber executable file, that gets additional information, that is not accessible in Premiere Pro API. To be sure that Grave Robber works properly, whitelist following file:

```
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\CEP\extensions\knights_of_the_editing_table.grave_robber\assets\exec\spellcast_win.exe
```

# Chronicler

It is I, your chronicler, who alone can tell thee of your saga

* Automatically track time in Adobe apps
* Get detailed time for projects: sequences, compositions, smart documents, etc.
* Auto-group linked projects: dynamic link, `.psd` files inside Premiere, etc.
* Set idle time: tracking will stop after being idle for X minutes
* Export CSV log for projects

{% embed url="<https://youtu.be/M2LEzLDGd8M>" %}

# What is it for?

> We spend a lot of time in Adobe applications and it is often good to know how much of this time was spent on a specific project, whether for a client or for yourself.
>
> It is possible to track time yourself (using notes or spreadsheets), or with help of tracking applications, though not all of them provide enough details and some require you to press a button to start tracking, which can be easily forgotten.

Chronicler is an extension for Adobe applications, that will track the time for every project **automatically**.

# How it works

Chronicler starts tracking right away when project is opened.\
No need to press a button.

If supported, Chronicler also tracks time spent on project items:

* Project panel, sequences and Production Projects in Premiere Pro
* Project panel, compositions in After Effects
* Smart objects in Photoshop
* Links in Illustrator
* Scenes in Animate

If application becomes inactive or user is idle for X amount of time, tracking will stop.

# Main Panel

Main panel consists of 3 parts:

* header with current active project
* search/filter buttons
* projects and folders

<figure><img src="/files/LNWNT0iotdf74HMGlAMy" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

### Drag reorder

It is possible to reorder projects and group them inside folders. Select one or more items and drag them to reorder.

# Settings

To open settings window, right click on Chronicler panel and select `Open Settings`

## General

<figure><img src="/files/1vutOrkp7VH3ivHeaCfJ" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

### Automatically group projects

Chronicler will automatically group linked projects in the same folder.

For example a Premiere project can include After Effects Dynamic Link and Photoshop files:\
a folder will be created with the name of parent project and all linked projects will be placed inside that folder.

<figure><img src="/files/KeXO3RfmYQVPIxZxMAjU" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

### Show file extension

If enabled, project names will also include file extension, e.g.:

```
Photo.psd, Edit.prproj, Vector.svg
```

### Show time with seconds

Show either "HH:MM" or "HH:MM:SS", e.g.:

```
Enabled : 10:12:03
Disabled: 10:12
```

### Stop tracking after being idle for X minute(s)

If user is inactive, Chronicler will stop tracking. It is possible to set up to 60 minutes of idle time.

### Currency & Default Rate

Define default rate for projects with billing. It is possible to change billing for every project individually.

# Cauldron

Brew sequences at once

* Generate multiple sequences from video, audio and caption clips
* Use custom sequence settings or match first clip settings
* Fit or fill frame in generated sequences
* Name sequences with wildcards

{% embed url="<https://youtu.be/3NyPnH1zGUU>" %}

# What is it for?

> There is often a need to create multiple versions of your edit. Such as adding different intros/outros to a main video, creating versions with different audio tracks or captions in multiple languages. And let's not forget about aspect ratios for social media.

**Cauldron** generates multiple sequences from video, audio and caption clips or group of clips.&#x20;

# How it works

## Create Sequences

To create sequences, drag and drop clips from Project panel to Cauldron timeline.\
Adjust settings if needed and press "Brew Sequences" button.

<figure><img src="/files/QpYUQqcRE2rdLRVyCjWh" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

<figure><img src="/files/wywN814Ir1504eaA4mtv" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

* It is possible to add one clip or group of clips.
* It is possible to combine any amount of clips on video and audio tracks, but only 1 clip is allowed per caption track.

In/Out points of source clips will be used.

{% hint style="info" %}
If clip duration inside sequence needs to be adjusted — change clip in/out point or duration and re-generate sequences again.
{% endhint %}

### Group of clips

When group of clips is added, Cauldron will iterate over each clip inside the group and create all possible combinations of sequences.

It is possible either to select group of clips or just bin with clips inside, it will also act as a group.

{% hint style="info" %}
When a bin is added to Cauldron, you can add/remove clips from it and generate updated version of sequences.
{% endhint %}

#### Ungroup clips

To ungroup added clips, right click on a group and select "Ungroup".

<figure><img src="/files/USQfq9cfl311DN0CbpTM" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

### Trim clips

It is possible to trim clips before adding them to generated sequences.

To do this, right click on a clip and select "Trim clip".

<figure><img src="/files/mDuIClD9WVjOwdyN4zVF" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

### Remove clips

To remove clips from Cauldron, right click on a clip and select "Delete".

If you want to remove all clips, use "Empty Cauldron" button.

## Sequence Settings

### Sequence name

Cauldron creates multiple sequences, so it is good to have name that reflects what is inside of a sequence. Wildcards allow to create dynamic names for sequences.

<table><thead><tr><th width="202">Wildcard</th><th>Description</th></tr></thead><tbody><tr><td><strong>#V1{1}</strong></td><td>use name of 1 clip on the first video track</td></tr><tr><td><strong>#A2{3}</strong></td><td>use name of 3 clip on the second audio track</td></tr><tr><td><strong>#C1</strong></td><td>use name of caption clip on the first audio track</td></tr><tr><td><strong>#VER</strong></td><td>version of a sequence</td></tr></tbody></table>

### Width, Height, FPS

Disable `Match first video clip` checkbox to set custom width, height and fps for created sequences.

### Auto-reframe

Use Premiere's "Auto-reframe sequence" feature.

### Clip Sizing

3 options availble:

* None — clips size stays unchanged
* Fill Frame — clip will fill the frame of a sequence (crop might occur)

If you have antivirus installed, it might block Arrow from listening a shortcut press. To be sure that Arrow works properly, whitelist following file:
